The fact is more and more people use the Internet to look for solutions to their every day problems. Where once it was a case of just picking up the Yellow Pages and flipping through looking for a service provider to fix their problem, it is now a case of people just Googling for it.
Whatever business you’re in, an ever increasing number 0f people search the internet for local service providers.
This trend will only increase as more people use “Mobile-Media” devices like the iPhone and other Internet ready smart phones like T-Mobile’s G1, equipped with Google’s Android Operating System. It’s clear that people will be using the Internet, and more specifically Google, for doing local searches for products and services.
Here is an example of a lost opportunity for a local business: A client was looking for an External USB hard drive. He could have gone to an online vendor and have it shipped next day but he wanted it that day. So he Googled “computer parts letchworth” and guess what, nothing, just some lame free classified add website.
Imagine this: with an optimised web site that targeted specific locations and keywords, you could be listed on the first page of results from Google. If this resulted in just 1 extra customer per day and each new customer spent an average of £50, an additional £15,600 per year in extra revenue would be generated
Now if you do this correctly you could double or quadruple (or more) that figure by doing 2 simple things…
1) Capture the name and address of each new customer
2) Send regular promotions and offers for other products and services
So let’s quadruple that original revenue figure… You gain an extra £62,400 in revenue with an average margin of 2.5 time material cost of (£24,960) and yes I know that the computer retail business works on much tighter margins but I’m doing an “average” to cover all businesses.
That equals an extra £37,440 per year or £3,120 per month in profits just for being on the first page of Google for local searches.
