The Three Pillars Of SEO

When you break SEO down into manageable chunks there are just three key elements. I have spent a lot of time researching and testing different theories that surround SEO. The more I learn and the more I test the more solid the three pillars of SEO become.

So to help you in your SEO efforts here are The Three Pillars Of SEO (SEO That Works!).

Pillar Number One – Web Pages

Ultimately this is what a web user will see when they get to your site from a search engine query. So before you create a page or if you are re-assessing your current site, you need to stop and take some time to think about your end-game and ask yourself  ”What do I want from my visitors?”

Every page on your website should be there for a reason and have a specific goal in mined.

It should contain “quality” information. By quality, I mean it should be relevant to the title on the page and in the title tag and meta descriptions, be informative and helpful and be uniquely written for that page. Having the same content on different pages is a big no-no!

And if you are thinking “what about keyword density?” you can stop worrying, Google are only interested in content relevancy, is the content of that page relevant to the tile of the page and not how many times that phrase is peppered throughout the copy.

Pillar Number Two: – Website Navigation

Critical to success is having a website that can be easily navigated by both your human visitors and by the search engine “spiders” that index your website. If there is poor internal link-structure or links to dead pages or websites or missing links then you are going to be penalized by the search engines.

Correct, easy to navigate internal linking can make a huge difference to both the users experience and to how effectively the search engines index your website.

Pillar Number Three – Backlinks

Firstly what is a backlink? Backlinks are the links on other websites and those on your own website that point back to specific pages on your site.

For the search engines, your website ranking is based on the above two pillars and on what they see on other websites about your website. It ranks a particular link in importance by assessing that site’s relevance to yours, on what “text” is used in the actual link and how the rest of the web sees that website.

Getting a few “good” links can out-perform having many “poor” links. It’s all about “quality” not quantity.

So be aware that anyone offering to create thousands of backlinks to your website,  will 9.9 times out of 10 be poor quality links and will most probably do your site harm rather than good.

Conclusion:

SEO that works is a simple task of having three solid pillars to your website.

1.      Quality content that is relevant to the page title.

2.      Website navigation that is easy to follow and error free.

3.      Quality backlinks from reputable and relevant websites.

Create these three pillars for your website and you will be ahead of 99% of all other websites on the internet.

Of course there is much more depth to each of the pillars than I have presented, but time and space limits the amount I can write about it here.
